20th June 2022, Bukit Tebak, Kemaman, Terengganu - A site visit with Aspire Prominent Sdn Bhd in Bukit Tebak, Kemaman Terengganu was held on 20 June 2022 joined by the Director of Pusat ALAM, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Yusri bin Mohd Yunus, Principal Consulting Fellow, YBhg. Dato’ Ir Ts. Dr. Badhrulhisham bin Abdul Aziz, our Research Fellow Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Fakhrurrazi bin Ishak, & Dr. Noormazlinah binti Ahmad. The purpose of this visit is to survey the potential mining site in Bukit Tebak, Kemaman. Several soil samples were also taken for research purposes in the area. Pusat ALAM was grateful for the willingness of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aspire Prominent Sdn Bhd, Mr. Norain Bin Nazmi to hold this site visit with us.

Dewan Tun Fatimah, UMP Gambang - Msc. Programme in Mining with Mineral Technology, Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology UMP had successfully organized a “One-day Seminar on Sustainable and Responsible Mining” on 28th May 2022 in Dewan Tun Fatimah UMP Gambang. Dato’ Ir Ts. Dr. Badhrulhisham Bin Abdul Aziz, our Principal Consulting Fellow was invited as panel which he glad to share his experiences, knowledge, new ideas and best practices in mining and mineral industry. It was attended by around 40 participants from industry and also joined by several UMP staff and undergraduate students. Dato’ Ir Ts. Dr. Badhrulhisham Bin Abdul Aziz was involved in the Slot 1 - Responsible Mining : Balancing the economic, technical, environment and social factors. As panelist, the seminar can be main platform for him to stimulate a discussion towards mining professionals, mining owners, researchers, academics and related agencies to discuss local issues, current development and best practices in responsible mining.

Malaysian Chamber of Mines, Kuala Lumpur - Meeting with the Malaysian Chamber of Mines (MCOM) on 8 June 2022 attended by Director of Pusat ALAM, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Yusri bin Mohd Yunus, Principal Consulting Fellow, YBhg. Dato’ Ir Ts. Dr. Badhrulhisham bin Abdul Aziz, and Research Fellow, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Fakhrurrazi bin Ishak at Malaysian Chamber of Mines's office. The agenda of the meeting was to discuss cooperation, especially of the forthcoming SERiES2022 conference and responsible mining industry. Pusat ALAM was very grateful to MCOM for holding the meeting and looking forward for future cooperation.

Centre for Sustainability of Ecosystem and Earth Resources (Earth Centre) Universiti Malaysia Pahang - Development of Bed Biofilm Reactor

In 1930, Tausz and Donath presented the concept of using microorganisms to treat contaminated soil, giving rise to wastewater organics and inorganics biodegradation (Source: https://doi.org/10.1002/jctb.7131 ).

Today, Universiti Malaysia Pahang's Earth Centre has successfully designed and developed a bed biofilm reactor that can be used as a fixed or moving bed. Biofilm carriers are presented into the reactor to increase biomass retention, reduce the space area required, and colonize microbes without biomass recycling.
